This comparison is about strengths and weaknesses because both the Sony A7S III and Sony FX6 are of such high quality. And choosing between them is obviously a huge to talk about the ergonomics and the features of each camera and the results of the side-by-side comparison.

In terms of capabilities both have 10-bit all-eye codecs they all have superb autofocus performance professional audio options and fantastic image quality both are powerful professional video tools just in two different styles of the body.

Sony A7S III

the fx6 body is designed for video whereas the A7S III is a body style designed for still photography. They are different styles of cameras for video work so there are a few big advantages of each design though.

When it comes to menu system the FX6 uses same menu just like the Sony FX9 whereas the A7S III uses same design from Sony A1 system.

So for me the menu system on A7S III far better than FX6 and FX9 because its nice touches you can quickly access and change your autofocus settings.

Sensor

Because the FX6 has high frame rate options and possibility to do 4k 120 frames a second continuously with no crop and 240 frames a second in 1080p the FX6 with its native 4k sensor can work quicker that higher resolution 6k sensor.

Image Quality

When it comes to image quality if we pair those two cameras and look into Sony A7S III and Sony FX6 they both share the same sensor and the same processors. They both are very similar but the obvious difference between them is the ergonomics.

Both cameras have different sensor and processors and it means the cameras will have potentially quite different image quality.

Image Format

When it comes to image format there is a big difference the A7S III uses an mp4 wrapper which work easily in mac or windows whereas the FX6 uses XAVC format in an MXF wrapper just like the FX9 and the Sony FS7.

Dynamic Range

the dynamic range is the same on both cameras at 15 plus stops but low light is significantly better on the FX6 because of its larger pixels and its higher second sensitivity rating.

Viewfinder

The A7S III is a big advantage in the viewfinder the 9.44 million dot EVF is a fantastic one of the best I’ve ever used. It does have a flip-out screen even flexible as the screen on the FX6 which you can mount anywhere you want but there’s no viewfinder actually on the FX6 this is a big difference.

the screen of the FX6 is better for monitoring than A7S III but it doesn’t have the fantastic viewfinder of the A7S III.

Batteries

So, both cameras uses different batteries A7S III use NP-FZ100 and FX6 uses large BP-U Series that are significantly more expensive on FX6 but last longer and have larger capacity.

Conclusion

Sony FX6 has a larger body than A7S III also has the best variable ND system on the market and a reason to choice FX6 instead A7S III is because has two xlr ports and full audio controls, having xlrs on the body isa more reliable option.
