Sony A7 IV VS A7 III Camera Decision

This is a comparison between Sony A7 IV VS A7 III so if you are new in photography and you own an A7 III and probably want to upgrade to an A7 IV.

Body Differences

When we look at the differences between the two bodies the A7 III didn’t feel as refined in the hands but the A7 IV does feel much more refined.

the buttons and the layout on the A7 IV and everything just feel much better than the A7 III I mean feels for me like that because there are so many photographers who think differently.

A7 IV has a much deeper grip than A7 III when you hold it in your hands you’ll also notice that the A7 IV is thicker with two CS than the A7 III.

Image Quality

the picture from the Sony A7 III looks a bit more color, the color noise is also much stronger than the Sony A7 III with 24 million pixels.

Clouds are significantly larger with the Sony A7 IV, even they are a bit smaller that’s not an insanely big difference but if you now consider the A7 IV has a higher resolution there is almost no difference and both cameras lose a lot of details.

If we look at the noise there is not a big difference between them the noise behavior is very similar overall.

Sensor

When it comes to sensors the A7 IV has a 33 megapixel BSI CMOS sensor that is powered by the BIONZ XR processor found in the Sony A1 whereas the A7 III has a 24.2 megapixel full frame BSI CMOS sensor that is powered by the BIONZ X processor.

Native ISO Performance

In terms of native ISO, the A7 IV will go from 100 to 51 200 expandable up to 204 800 and it’s exactly the same as the A7 III.

There is a minor difference between both cameras the 24 megapixels is the lower bat you will have a cleaner higher ISO than with the 33 megapixels.

So, both cameras will give you very similar results and 100 ISO is great when you’re shooting portraits or have a ton of light if you’re shooting at 10,000 or 12, 800 ISO you’re gonna get fantastic results with either of these cameras.

Lens Mount

In terms of the lens both cameras use the Sony E-Mount they’re exactly the same which means any lens you have like Tamron or sigma on this camera is going to work on both.

In terms of the focus points the A7 IV has 759 phase detect AF points that cover 94 of the frame whereas the A7 III has 693 phase detect AF points it has less than the A7 IV but when the A7 III comes out it was a well-rounded camera with its speed, photos, and video.

So keep in mind with A7 IV when you shoot raw and put two cards the camera is going to slow down to the slower card, you have UHS-II, and you have one in the other it’s going to dumb it down to the speed of the slower card because you have the cf express type a slot and an sd card slot.

Burst Rate

the A7 IV has 10 fps with both the electronic and the mechanical shutter whereas with the A7 III you’re getting 10 fps with both the electronic and the mechanical shutter.

Video Features

the A7 IV has full frame 4k UHD video recording up to 30 fps, 10 bit 4:2:2 if recording at 24p 1080p at 120 frames per second S-Log.

Whereas the A7 III has full frame 4k UHD video recording up to 30 frames per second at 8-bit 4k oversampled from 6k not 7k with no pixel binning when recording in 30 fps or below you could do 4k 60p in super 35 1080p at 120 fps S-log.

A7 IV has a better heat dissipation when you are shooting video without overheating issues.

the A7 IV has 5 axis steady shot up to 5.5 stops of stabilization whereas the A7 III has 5 axis steady shot up to 5 stops of stabilization.

The A7 IV has an optical active mode stabilization which is going to give you a slight crop but a really smooth stabilization.

So, if you’re gonna walk and talk or follow someone that’s going to do it but you may get a slight crop it’s super steady when you do that.

Viewfinder

The A7 IV features a 3.68 million dot evf with a 120 fps refresh rate wereas the A7 III features a 2.4 million dot evf with 60 fps refresh rate and that’s 1.6 times more resolution than the A7 III.

the A7 IV has a 3.0″ inch 1.03 million dots vary angle touch screen whereas the A7 III has a 3.0″ inch 922000k dots tilting touch screen.

A7 IV has full touchscreen functionality which you have the ability to go throug hand touch the menu you had to scroll through or hit the arrows, whereas A7 III the touchscreen capabilities are limited to just touch focusing.

the screen on A7 III is not very good it’s functional its attached to the back of the camera the screen so its not much better in resolution if there’s one part one place that sony falls short for whatever reason they make a lot of panels they make tvs for god’s sake but they don’t put great screens on the A7 III.

the difference is A7 III has a tilting rotatable very angled touchscreen which is good if you want to put it off to the side it’s going to be better for video shooting it’s going to be better for holding above your head or holding it down low.

there are a couple of differences between these bodies one of the things is a digital hot shoe option with the A7 IV whereas do not have the digital hot shoe on the A7 III.

So the A7 IV uses sony’s new accessories like a microphone that doesn’t need to be plugged into the side because it’s talking digitally through the hot shoe and onthe A7 III you would have to go ahead and plug it in to the side when you’re recording video.

Weight

those cameras are prity light the A7 IV weighs 658 grams whereas the A7 III weighs 650 grams so there is not much of a difference here.

So, both of these cameras do have the option to add a vertical grip which will give you the ability to have two batteries inside.

So what is here important the A7 III’s grip will not work on the A7 IV and the A7 IV grip will not work on the A7 III.

but the A7 IV grip will work on the Sony A9 II and on the Sony A7R IV and the Sony A1 so when shooting vertical it’s going to put all the dials right where you need it to be

Price Differences

When it comes to the price of the camera the A7 IV comes in at around $2,500 whereas the A7 III is priced out at around $2,000 and this camera is an amazingly priced camera at under $2,000.

So, is it worth the the $500 extra dollars that’s for you to decide to picking between these two cameras you can absolutely go with the A7 IV to be a more professional.

If you want to buy A7 III because you want to save money its better to get a used one because its not worth to buy a new.

If you still thinking about which camera is better to choose I definitely would take the A7 IV because of the feel of the body and it’s getting two CS.

The 33 megapixel on A7 IV is really great you’re getting a newer processor and new engine and you’re getting a similar camera to what’s in the Sony A1.

Is Sony A7 IV better than Sony A7 III?

if you had to choose which camera to get you can go with the A7 IV it has the Sony A1 engine and it’s going to be slightly better.
