Fujifilm has released its latest cameras the X-H2s, the X-H2, and the Fujifilm X-T5, so you might be wondering which one is right for you.
the X-H2 and X-H2s are the first Fujifilm X-series cameras to use the brand new 5th generation X-Trans sensor and the X-processor 5 image processing engine which has twice the processing power of the previous models.
There are a lot of specs and a lot of things to go through so in this review I’m going to talk about Fujifilm X-T5 vs X-H2 vs X-H2s and find out about differences from each other so I take a close look at the inner and outer values of the cameras.
Fujifilm is one of the few companies making high-end APS-C cameras whereas most other brands are focusing on full frames.
So whether you looking for a High megapixel unstack sensor or a low megapixel stack sensor it’s an ongoing rivalry Fujifilm’s latest release of X-H2s and X-T5 has fueled this and we wonder what performs better.
Fujifilm X-H2 vs Fujifilm X-H2s vs X-T5 the photographer versus the videographer camera what to choose between 40 megapixel sensor with good AF versus a 26 megapixel sensor with better AF and better video specs vs 42 megapixel sensor on the X-T5 what camera would you choose.
Whether to buy the X-T5, the X-H2, or the X-H2s so to really cut things down there are a few differences you should know before buying.

What Are Differences Between Fujifilm X-T5 vs X-H2 vs X-H2s?
1. there are also differences in the sensor technology between Fujifilm X-T5 and X-H2 in the S version, the x-trans cemos 5 HS sensor, with HS which means High Speed, and HR which means High Resolution.
2. Fujifilm X-H2s which comes with the stack sensor technology is the basis for a fast electronic shutter without such annoying rowling shutter-type effects but also improves the autofocus or video function.
3. There is difference also in video resolution for the X-H2 has 8K and the X-T5 has 6.2K, the viewfinder resolution is a little bit different with the X-H2 features 5.76 million dots and 120 fps for that refresh rate, whereas the X-T5 has 3.69 million dots at a 100 frame per second.
4. the Fujifilm X-H2 has two CFX Express card slots and SD cards, whereas the X-T5 only has SD card slots and the HDMI on the X-H2 is large.
5. So, one of the big differences of the X-T5 compared to the X-H models is the dedicated dials for ISO shutter speed and exposure compensation.
What Are Similarities Between X-T5 and X-H2?
the X-T5 and the X-H2 outside of the major physical design differences they are almost the same exact camera they both have the same 40 megapixel x-trans 5 sensor, the same processor, the same autofocus system, the same ISO ranges, the same 15 FPS mechanical shutter and same Ibis.
X-T5 and X-H2 they both have the X-Trans five HR sensor with the X-Processor five, which gives both 40 megapixels. Both of those cameras, have the 160 megapixel pixel shift, the same electronic shutter range, and the same mechanical shutter range, the same film simulation modes and 10-bit HEIF stills as found in the X-H2. It also features the same 160MP pixel shift mode found in the X-H2.
Body
On the side of the X-T5 there are the standard ports you’d expect, including 3.5mm mic input, remote, USB C which is also able to be used for charging the camera, micro HDMI out as opposed to full HMDI on the X-H2 and X-H2S and dual UHS-II SD card slots on the other side.
There’s an interval timer built in for timelapse shooting and there are digital teleconverter modes on the X-T5 found in the X-H2 which allows you to simulate a 1.4x or 2x teleconverter in-camera, utilizing that massive 40mp resolution to crop into the image, you don’t have to use these and you can crop in post. The detailed and large images you get from X-T5 mean there’s loads of room to play around afterward if you didn’t quite nail your composition in the field.
Screen
The LCD of the new three-way tilt actually has improved resolution at 1.84 million dots, whereas the X-H2 has a 1.62 million dots the Vari-angle, the flip-out screen.
on top of the body, the X-T5 has a three-way tilt screen instead of the fully articulated design that is found on the X-H2 and X-H2s versions, the X-T5 will also come without a battery grip option which can be useful if you want to have extra battery life and the extra vertical grip.
Viewfinder
The differences between the X-T5, the X-H2, and X-H2S come in the viewfinder and LCD screen on the back. The viewfinder is a 3.69 million dot OLED EVF, the same as found in the X-T4, but different from the 5.75 million dot OLED EVF you’ll find on the X-H2.
Sensor
When it comes to megapixels the sensor the processor the X-T5 and the X-H2 are pretty much identical but with the X-H2s has a stacked sensor for faster readout speeds and less rolling shutter.
- X-H2 40 MP BSI X-Trans CMOS 5 HR
- X-H2S 26.1 MP Stacked BSI X-Trans CMOS 5 HS
- X-T5 40 MP BSI X-Trans CMOS 5 HR
So, the X-T5 features the fifth generation sensor and processor found in the X-H2 and it also has the improved AF algorithms from the X-H2 as well.
When it comes to the sensor in X-H2 has a 40 megapixel it’s incredible the image quality spoiler, we have a 26.1 megapixel for the X-H2S this camera is much more geared video photo hybrid shooter, also the X-H2s has a backlit sensor whereas the X-T5 has a sensor of 40 million pixels, therefore, of the X-H2.
the new X-T5 HR sensor packs 40megapixels into the APS-C area that’s 14 more than the previous generation and 8 more than Canon R7 it generates images with 7728 by 50 and 52 pixels versus 6240 by 4160 from the X-H2s or any of the previous 26megapixel models.
Autofocus
In terms of the Autofocus, it’s the same Intelligent Hybrid AF found in the X-H2 and the X-H2S in the Single-point AF mode, there are up to 425 selectable AF points there’s Zone AF and just like in the X-H2 and X-H2S, X-T5 can detect animals, birds, cars, bikes, planes, and train.
When we speak of autofocus subject recognition, when you covered part of the face, maybe you will lose the entire face in the meantime, so that you no longer need the face at all, because, one eye is enough and constantly sharp on it.
the autofocusing is better on the X-H2s with its stack sensor it can shoot up to 40 fps with an electronic shutter and has a better hit rate than the X-H2 the autofocusing just locks onto a subject whereas the X-H2 can do 20 fps and with an electronic shutter but it’s with a crop so if you’re shooting action and you need the speed to capture a dynamic setting then go for the X-H2s.
The AF in X-T5 and the X-H2 isn’t quite as fast as in the X-H2s but in the X-H2 the autofocus is really excellent.
Low Light
Low light performance matches that of the X-H2, from 125 to 12,800 expandable down to 64 and 51,200, so just as with the X-H2, the low light capabilities with X-T5 look very good with less noise it has a high-resolution sensor.
We know that it’s not low as good as the Sony A7S III, but it’s very good considering it’s a 40-megapixel sensor.
Battery
the X-T5 like X-H2 and X-H2s uses the NP-W235 battery, the W235 battery brings with it extended performance and this battery will prove to be a long-lasting battery.
According to Fujifilm it will give around 680 frames from a single charge. Of course, actual usage will vary depending on conditions, but just like X-H2 and X-H2s models, the battery life is really excellent.
Shutter type
the X-H2 can do 1205 frames with the mechanical shutter so you can shoot for 78 seconds at 15 fps with the electronic shutter, the camera is a bit slower it manages 13,5 fps and with the electronic shutter you can easily take 1600 photos for two minutes, whereas with the X-T5 it is like that with the mechanical shutter at 15 frames per second they only manage about 1,5 seconds, 2 seconds and with the electronic shutter, the camera then manages 13 frames per second.
X-T5 is the same camera as in the X-H2 and X-H2S and just like the X-H2, X-T5 is capable of 20 fps of continuous shooting in electronic shutter mode and 15 frames mechanical.
Buffer
The buffer on the X-T5 is a little bit lower like 20fps on the X-T5, you’ve got 168 frames, versus 1000 plus on the X-H2. For uncompressed RAW and jpeg, the specs are showing 23 frames or about one second’s shooting compared to approximately 11 seconds on the X-H2.
Dynamic Range
the X-H2s also has more dynamic range than the X-H2, the X-H2s has 14 stops at dynamic range and the X-H2 only has 13 stops at dynamic range.
Video Features
In terms of video performance, the X-H2 can shoot up to 8K at 30 fps that’s a lot of cropping ability whereas the X-H2s does 6.2K at 30 fps and 4K at 120 fps. the X-H2 can also do 6.K at 30 but it can only do 4K at 60 fps.
There is also differences in the video the X-T5 is still capable of 6.2K at 30p and 4K at 60p or 4K HQ at 30p which is a downsample 6.2K, the X-H2 can capture 8k 30p and the X-H2s has 4K 120p and 6.2K in a 3×2 open gate ratio.
Both cameras shoot prores internally but because of the AK sensor the X-H2 does have a few tricks up its sleeve that the X-H2s doesn’t have, the X-H2 can also switch its resolution it can also be filmed in 6K but it’s not open gate and it can also do 4K HQ meaning.
However, they downsample from an 8K sensor to give you an image that is crispy sharp and full of details it also has a function where you can use digital zoom in in your 4K mode where you don’t lose quality because of that 8K sensor but this is not available in 4K 60.
So, X-H2 and X-H2s offer a lot of new codecs including h.265 apple prores you can record 10-bit internally or 12-bit via HDMI there’s no 30 minutes for limitation and if you worry about overheating there is an optional cooling fan that you can attach to the back of both of these cameras.
In terms of video performance on the X-T5 has been specked down relative to the X-H2 and X-H2s, the X-T5 can shoot videos up to 6.2K 30P with the X-H2, and you can shoot up to 30P in 8K.
Storage
There is also differences in the storage unlike the xh2s, the xt5 has two SD card slots instead of just one SD and one CFexpress slot.
Ports
the X-T5 does not have a headphone port instead has the smaller micro HDMI port though and has a dedicated mic jack its Port covers are the new hinge style doors whereas the X-H2 has both the mic jack and the headphone port.
So, on the X-H2 there is a headphone jack, and not with the X-T5, X-H2 has a transmitter that allows you to send the pictures away whereas X-T5 doesn’t have that.
Weight and Size
It’s smaller and lighter 15% than the X-H2, when it comes to weight its 557g whereas X-H2 and X-H2s are 660g and X-T5 retains the classic styling you’re used to from the Fujifilm X-T series.
Price
the X-T5 and X-H2 both cameras differ significantly in price so the X-T5 is offered with a camera housing at $1700 at BH Photo, the X-H2 is offered at $2000 and the X-H2s is $2500, X-T5 compared to an X-H2 there is $300 of difference and $800 with X-H2s.
the X-H2s is $ 500 more expensive than X-H2 because of its stacked sensor technology that’s what you’re paying for but that doesn’t mean the X-H2 ain’t so good.
the X-H2s comes with a fully articulated screen and comes at $2,500 which makes it the most expensive option among all three cameras.
Which Camera You Should Buy X-T5, X-H2 or X-H2s?
Whether to buy the X-T5, the X-H2, or the X-H2s there are a few differences first in terms of video the X-T5 is capable of 6.2 k at 30p and 4K60p or 4K HQ at 30p which is a downsample 6.2 K.
the X-H2 can capture 8k 30p and the X-H2s has 4K 120p and 6.2 K in a 3×2 open gate ratio the difference is due to because unlike the X-H2s, the X-T5 has two SD card slots instead of just one SD and one CFexpress slot.
when it comes to megapixels the sensor the processor the X-T5 and the X-H2 are pretty much identical but with the X-H2s having a stacked sensor for faster readout speeds and less rolling shutter.
the X-T5 does not have a headphone port and has a smaller micro HDMI port though its Port covers are the new hinge-style doors which is better than the X-T4.
X-T5 is much less suitable for wildlife and sports than the X-H2 or the X-H2s which was specially made for it, the X-H2s had huge buffers which also included a CF Express card that has 26 megapixels and achieves an incredible burst speed of up to 40fps a really great camera so if you want to take pictures of sports action wildlife and animals, you’ll probably be well served with an X-H2s.
Why Should you Buy X-H2 Over X-T5?
the X-H2 with 40 megapixels has relatively fast images and the camera is more extensive if you compare it with the X-T5, the X-H2 has a better viewfinder, it has a fold-out display, it can switch more quickly between different pre-programmed programs, it has a longer continuous shooting function than the X-T5.
the camera just like the X-H2 also has an even more pronounced grip that is certainly very practical for larger hands also the X-H2 can have an upright grip screwing whereas the X-T5 can’t do that.
So, not a big difference from the X-T5 to the Fujifilm X-T4 is we now have the old screen which can only or exclusively be folded up by 90 degrees and down by 45 degrees.
I think the X-T5 is like the X-T4 also has a fold-out display and a swiveling display, there are a lot of supporters of this other display, which you can’t fold out and swivel.
There’s a big difference between the two Cameras also that the dials at the back of the X-T5, and also the front dial can be pressed in, whereas those here with the X-H2 are steel so that you can move them but you can’t press them in.
what those mirrorless cameras can do better for $300 more you also get a few performance things less the X-H2 can make up to 400 RAWs while the X-T5 is already full after 15 raws and 115 or 119 JPEGs, the X-H2 can shoot 8K, but the X-T5 can’t.
Why X-H2 is Better for Photography than X-H2s and X-T5?
So, one of the most exciting things is X-H2 has a custom button set to where you go and you could change the crop modes which really helps when trying to frame when shooting medium format.
If you need to get the XH2s or the X-H2 it learns really simply the photos look great on both of them but if you’re someone that’s more focused on photos get the X-H2 if you’re someone that needs anything video related get the X-H2s.
the X-H2 has 40 megapixel sensor and it’s not supposed to be that great with the 35 1.4 but when it comes to photography it’s not full of technically perfect photos like X-T5 which is made for photography.
Why should you buy X-T5?
the reason to buy the X-T5 is due to its ergonomics and its way of operation even though it might not be for everyone and having a shutter dial an ISO dial a non-articulating screen this camera is right for you.
the X-T5 has more megapixels than most and has better autofocus the video is still outstanding and you can edit from the raw files is more than good enough, the dynamic range the colors the detail you can get straight from the camera really is the best for those that have never tried a Fuji camera before.
So, if you are photographer, X-T5 is gonna be the camera that you really should be choosing considering the cost as well as those who don’t prioritize video as much in comparison to the X-H2 or the X-H2S, X-T5 is compact, great image quality, film simulations that we know and love.
Fujifilm has improved electronic shutter, sensor, and autofocus from the X-H2 with in-body image stabilization. But we have the classic aesthetics, the retro aesthetics of the XT line, and getting away from that PASM.
Where X-H2 and X-H2s Win Over X-T5?
So you won’t get a full size HDMI port on the X-T5 that you do get on the X-H2. You won’t be able to have the ability to record internal ProRes with X-T5, whereas the X-H2 and the X-H2S has the ability to do.
Also, X-T5 don’t have the CFexpress type B memory card slot, instead, the X-T5 has a dual UHS-II SD card slots, I actually prefer SD cards slots because they are a lot more cost efficient for stills, on the X-T5, you don’t get the PASM, instead you get the analog dials.
the X-H2S and the X-H2 have the ability for a vertical battery grip or that new kind of FTP wireless transfer grip for the kind of wireless capabilities.
the recording media on the X-T5 is a dual SD configuration so you do not have the option to use the much faster CF Express type B cards as you do on the X-H2 or X-H2s cameras.
the primary reason behind the X-T5 not having 8K and prores recording options which are available on the X-H2.
Where X-H2 Wins Over X-H2s?
there are two impressive specifications on the X-H2 first the possibility of using an electrical shutter speed as fast as 1/180000 of a second whereas in comparison the X-H2s only goes up to 1/32000 of a second and the xh2 has pixel shift multi shot mode for the first time on the fuji camera.
So, you can use multiple shots to create more resolution what happens here is the X-H2 takes 20 images in a row moving the sensor by a half a pixel in between and it creates 160 megapixel image.
Which Camera is better for video X-H2 or X-H2s?
Well, both are great cameras it just boils down to your needs if you’re a filmmaker get the xh2s, the xh2s is the better choice because of the stack sensor if you’re serious about video creation the xh2s is for you. the xh2 video capabilities work best when it’s in a static position.
So, which camera are you ready to get?
The Fujifilm X-H2s is designed for sports and Wildlife Shooting so the weatherproof body and the top LCD display to show and change the primary setting come in very handy.
the Fujifilm X-T5 is more feature packed but the X-H2s is a different kind of camera despite the lack of mechanical tiles you’ll still be able to see and use f-stop ISO shutter through that tiny top display.
If you are a stills photographer, the X-T5 is the one to go to, unless you’re looking for kind of the grip side of things and the ergonomics of that. If you want the true flagship for stills as well as having that improved resolution for video, that’s where the X-H2 is going to come in.
So, X-H2 is a photographer camera but it doesn’t have an articulated screen it has a flip out screen whereas X-H2s is a vlogging or a videographer camera and lesser as a photographer camera but it’s having better AF so it’s very hard to decide.
I suggest getting X-H2s because 26 megapixels is plenty of megapixels the sharpness in real world use will not be an advantage of X-H2 because you need to raise the shutter, you need to raise the ISO and you’ll be slowed down when you are shooting.
If you choose the better hybrid and altered a camera from these two it has to be the X-H2s so it doesn’t mean the X-T5 is bad it can capture beautiful pictures with great details than you can take the X-T5 as your primary camera.
Is Worth $500 More for X-H2s?
So, is $500 worth for X-H2s with extra features maybe because of that rolling shutter and fast burst rate for skills if that is important to you, or X-H2 with 8K 40 megapixels and a lot cheaper price.
Conclusion
So, what do you think about Fujifilm cameras like Fujifilm X-T5 vs X-H2 vs X-H2s you want to enter the world and get a top camera then it is an X-H2s, but now when X-H2 is here and you are coming from a camera like the X-T4 model the X-T4 has a good sensor and X-H2s has a great processor and the exprocedural 5 right faster image processing speed, having more accurate and faster autofocus.
When it comes to X-H2 you have a variety of autofocus options, high cute animals autofocus on birds, jump focus on planes, autofocus on trains, and high autofocus on motorcycles, whereas the Fujifilm XT4 has face recognition, eye recognition, and the X-T4 has the former processor 4 sensor X-trans 4 it is a sensor and a processor that preceded the line five in the new fifth generation of processors and sensors.
