So, in my blog reviews, I have been talking a lot about the best cinema cameras, and best mirrorless cameras, but in every single one of them, I’ve been comparing them against the Canon EOS 5dsr.
Canon 5dsr is a 51 megapixel camera which is fantastic for landscapes but the downside to the 5dsr is that it is a very slow camera.
It shoots about 4 frames per second in a burst and it will only maintain that for about 12 shots. I love this camera because it’s the benchmark camera that I have been using for all my work since 2015.
So if there is any camera that I feel genuinely qualified to talk about it’s Canon eos 5ds R.
So after using it so heavily for the last five years is it worth still buying a 5dsr in 2021.

So the choices have been very limiting from the camera where even to this day the 5 DS R and the 5ds have still not been technically replaced by the Canon eos r5 or the 5d mark iv.
So how does canon’s current megapixel flagship stack up today in terms of performance like buffer size, card formats and write speeds.
It gets absolutely creamed by the four years younger Sony a7r mark iv despite having an extra 10 megapixels.
so if you do motorsport wildlife photography or anything that requires faster action-paced work there are significantly better options out there for you.
The panasonic s1r the nikon z7 and even the sony a7r mark 3 are just a few megapixels shy of the Canon 5dsr.
And yet in terms of performances standard they keep up to 20 20.
So on that front it’s not looking great for the aging 5dsr or for the 5ds for that matter it’santi-aliasing counterpart but what about image quality.

Image Quality
In terms of image quality, there is no real difference between this and the 45-megapixel cameras especially when you trade in those modern specs.
And mirrorless advantages dynamic range has always been lagging behind.
During this era with Canon whereas others have used sony sensors with improved dynamic range even in 2015 standards canon tried to wrestle the market by having more megapixels instead.
So after having bashed the canon R I guess it’s time to start talking about the good points about it.
The reasons to buy this camera it’s hard but first the good thing is the fact that the image quality is on par with what’s out today even against the sony a7r mark iv is a testimony to how good it’s.
So now after five long years, it solidified its position as such an awesome investment because now it’s updated and it’s provided so much great image quality that was well ahead of its time.
So a five-year-old camera with the Canon EOS R5 and competing for other cameras out there with the sony A7R iv and those 45 47 megapixel mirrorless options that is fully modernized.
By today’s standards, you would expect that the canon 5dsr would have dropped significantly enough in retail prices to justify the camera as more of a value proposition in 2021.
So I think it is well suited in 2021 if the megapixels matter to you for whatever personal reason you have
The image quality that you can still get out of that camera is fantastic even by today’s standards it competes up against the best of the best of them.

Today maybe I can use this 5ds R as a glorified 50-megapixel sacrificial GoPro camera but for everyone else who doesn’t tick all those boxes it pains me to say it but I’d go elsewhere, I feel so bad bashing.
It’s helped me to create some of the best photography shots I have taken with this over the last five years.
Conclusion
In the end, I can say that Canon EOS 5 DSLR is a camera that has served me so well for the last five years.
