Best Selling Mirrorless Camera Panasonic Lumix G7

If you’re looking to buy an affordable camera with interchangeable lenses and a micro four-thirds camera I guess Panasonic Lumix G7 is your choice list. It is very comfortable to use and the most lightweight camera I’ve ever shot on its largely plastic construction very affordable with some serious quality.

Lumix G7 arrived as a replacement of the previous G6 capable of recording 4k resolution videos after the Panasonic GH4 and in my personal opinion boasts more features than the Sony A6000.

The Panasonic G7 is released in 2015 and is basically a camera on a trip or casual photography so I will give you some insight on how this camera performs. And the great thing I want to mention about this camera is that it comes at a low price but it still is a mirrorless camera with great quality at an affordable price.

It’s interchangeable that makes use of a micro four-thirds sensor a model that gives a lot and a big brother of the Gh4, with the same kind of autofocusing system and a similar sensor and lighter than GH4 and lighter than Sony A6000.

it has a slightly different size sensor than most DSLR. Its sharp edges it’s quite different looking from its predecessors the Panasonic G6 or the G5. It’s not going to be absolutely amazing but getting started might be worth it.

Of course, there are other great options to choose but like many other cameras with similar prices like Sony A6100 but there are so many things that you will love about this camera and why you should pick one up.

I want to mention the Canon EOS R5 and Canon EOS R6 because they are cameras with great performance and really low price but let me introduce my review of the Pansonic Lumix G7.

1. Performance

G7 performance is very high works by contrast and allows notably increase the focus speed, also G7 integrated a new system that improves focus in low light conditions also includes the popular shot 4k photo.

Panasonic G7 can shoot 4k 30 fps videos and full High Definition at 60 frames per second. In comparison with the previous version of Panasonic GH5, It has a 20-megapixel camera, 4K video, and comes with the 14 by 42-millimeter kit lens.

G7 has a built-in flash, has iso range up to 25600, wi-fi connection and support raw images, face detection timelapse videos and support 4K photo and post focus. G7 has remote operation support by smartphones or tablets shoot in 100 megabits video and support high-speed sd card.

Does really well in low-light built-in flash external mic jack does not have a headphone jack for me it’s the same camera like the Panasonic GH4.

G7 has a single SD card slot and supports Bluetooth connectivity which is great when using the Panasonic app with this it is definitely worth the money as your entry-level mirrorless camera.

this camera has amazing features like stop motion and time-lapse video. You can instantly process the sefiles inside the camera if you want to see what you just captured.

2. Panasonic G7 Body

The Lumix G7 has a very nice firm body with a design similar to the traditional DSLR camera body this camera has buttons and dials all over the place to satisfy most people’s needs. And it is still a tiny compact mirrorless camera. it’s a lot robust because therefore a very grip protruding for the hand is enough easy to take, very comfortable to shoot photos or to hold it in your hand and record videos.

Panasonic Lumix G7 Body

Lumix G7 has a traditional shape with a grip handle that is easy to deal with and doesn’t in any way would ever slip or fall from the hand and has a viewfinder in the middle. G7 is all plastic same as Sony A6100 a little bit cheap but in comparison with the GH 85 is a compact shape with no real handle with a small grip and smaller in size in comparison with the G7.

The point is that the G7 is a very sharp camera there’s just a slight edge in sharpness to the GX 85 there’s less weight. It has a better grip to it and instead of GX 85 has fewer features. But it has a better image stabilization system in the GX 85 because it uses a full five-axis.

on the left, you’ll find a drive mode dial for things like single-shot burst 4K burst mode and even time-lapse. There is a mic port on the left of the camera on the right or porch for remote micro HDMI and USB ports.

On the right is a mode dial that allows you to switch between modes such as the manual shutter, aperture priority, intelligent auto video, there is a mini HDMI port for streaming video straight to a computer or television an AV outport and a remote port for remote shutters.

the bottom of the camera has a standard tripod mount and the flap houses, the battery, and the memory card.

There are jog dials, dedicated record button which really has no place of being there, there are five dedicated function buttons, a dedicated flash button, and a dial to switch between autofocus.

3. Panasonic G7 Build Quality

build quality is generally good it is made of plastic and there is no weather sealing so you need to be careful in the rainy days and the snow because you can damage the camera.

G7 has a button for pretty much everything

And in comparison with other cameras is a better design than the Sony A6000. So, all buttons are very easy to use and make it very comfortable. It has got six customizable buttons that can easily be configured to your desired placement for instance.

4. Lumix G7 battery Life

G7 has lithium-ion batteries that boast 1200 milliamps, the capacity is 200 MH, 7.2-volt battery of 8.7 watts included model number DMW BLC 12 PP. The battery life when recording at 4K 100 megabytes per second the battery only lasts about an hour and a half shooting in comparison with the previous version the GH4 could go over 4 hours.

5. Panasonic Lumix G7 LCD Screen

the camera features a flip-up screen high-quality 3-inch fully articulated LCD touchscreen just like Sony A6100, the display resolution on G7 is certain the screen is tactile which I was able to set the point of focus to modify settings and even perform gestures.

There are other cameras with the flip-up screens it depends on the price you want to spend but Nikon Z9 has a nice flip-up screen the difference is its price it’s coming around $5500 for the body it’s more expensive than Sony A6100 and from G9.

Panasonic Lumix G7 LCD Screen 1

For me was very useful when I don’t want to use the LCD display the buttons on the back of the camera are plenty big and easily move throughout the menus and change settings with ease.

G7 has an electronic viewfinder which some mirrorless cameras do not have I think the electronic viewfinder on the G7 came from a Canon 700D which had an optical viewfinder.

the display is foldable and everything in between but has a nice quality even if there is that micro delay due to the point at the fact which is digital. So, the G7 monitor is free-angle you can swivel it in all directions making it easy to place the camera at any angle and still see the shots.

This clearly makes it very well suited for video work also you can keep an eye on your frame regardless of where you stand. G7 has a screen folding that you can directly record you and see you directly from your rotate and it is that you hit the record button and can see how the shot will be.

Panasonic Lumix G7 LCd Screen

I really like the articulating screen on G7, it has a viewing eyepiece which is pretty decent, and actually, you can switch between the eyepiece and the screen with a small button.

Panasonic G7 has a tilting screen it comes in very handy while getting those interesting creative angles whether shooting stills or video.

6. Lumix G7 Meny

Pros

  • button for ISO focus modes of white balance
  • there are five different function buttons
  • there’s a little flip-up dial for different focus modes
  • a dial for different photo modes
  • a dial for the shutter
  • a dedicated record button
  • a dedicated photo button

Cons

  • no in-body image stabilization
  • no dust and splashproof
  • no weather sealing

the menu system on this camera is really intuitive and easy to navigate you can go right up front on the display without even going into the menus.

I was able to navigate quickly to some of the most essential features like ISO, white balance shutter speed, and aperture picture profiles.

Panasonic Lumix G7 Specs

  • one SD slot
  • shoot 4k 30 fps videos
  • built-in flash
  • built in microphone
  • iso range up to 25600,
  • wi-fi connection
  • support raw images
  • face detection
  • support 4K photo
  • remote operation support
  • shoot in 100 megabits video

7. Panasonic Lumix G7 ISO range

Panasonic G7 got an ISO range of 100 all the way up to 25,600 but is digitally manipulated to give you that increased ISO range for that awesome low light photography and videography effect. I think this camera looks best at 3200 or 6400 and even it has a smaller sensor it’s still very good in low-light for video. The low light and the endurance of high ISO is not just the best on the G7 although this is a limit of almost all micro models four thirds.

8. Panasonic G7 low light performance

When it comes to low light performance it’s pretty good it gets great low-light performances even it has a small sensor. G7 does in body 4K, do internal 4K at a hundred megabits per second this camera performs exceptionally well in low light having a high dynamic range and producing very little noise 6400 in video mode and 25000 and 600 in photo mode.

If you have a bigger sensor the lighter you can capture on your sensor and the better it is in low-light. But even G7 has a small sensor it has really good ISO performance for photos.

G7 is pretty decent for photos in low-light it would be better if you shoot at 3200 ISO for best results but if you can shoot lower than 3200 you’ll get a clearer image.

9. Panasonic G7 Autofocus

G7 has very fast autofocus it means when you pointed out something it catches autofocus really quick and it’s sharp and in focus. But in my testing inside and outs G7 is an amazing camera in the right hands for videography and photography, the autofocus is way better in HD than it is in 4k maybe that’s because the processor is prioritizing image data over autofocus data.

if you want better autofocus Canon M50 has way better autofocus 120 frames per second in HD something called Canon Dual pixel autofocus. The difference is Canon M50 has a similar body it’s not as rich with the buttons as G7 but it has external audio placement it’s got the side flippy screen it does 4K it does HD.

10. Panasonic G7 Face Tracking

something that I really like about the G7 is face tracking its very advanced and there’s pretty much nothing on the planet that doesn’t do good face tracking.

so when you move around subjects unless it’s a face it’ll do a great job tracking a face but if you are moving a plant there’s a bunch of things in the frame it’s not gonna track very well.

11. Panasonic G7 Image Quality

The image quality as far as the high ISO performance is pretty good for such a tiny sensor like G7 the skin tones look natural. G7 delivers amazing image quality, produces nice sharp images with very good ISO performance compared to the previous model Panasonic GH4.

I took some of the photos for testing environments to see how it looks and you can expect high-quality footage out of this camera where even you can not find in any other camera in this price range, actually.

The image that comes out of the camera has enough color contrast and saturation. The color science is pleasing to the eye, the skin looks really nice the highlight roll-off on the face is smooth. They’re clear the image looks good it’s almost as good as the Panasonic gh5 it has the same sensor and the same size.

They look great, sharp the autofocus in photos is very crisp and amazing the shooting modes are insane. When you’re taking photos you can quickly shutter speed so you get up to 8 frames per second mechanically and then you get up to 40 frames per second with an electronic shutter.

The G7 is able to capture 4K images at any aspect ratio and create a movie on the camera all on its own. You can even add effects to your images by using one of the available filters.

With Panasonic G7 you can take pictures of 30 frames per second and with a 8-megapixel resolution instead of the 16 effective megapixels of the sensor.

12. Dynamic Range

the dynamic range on this camera is good maybe not good as the Sony A7 series or the Canon cinema line but it retains many colors in the highlight.

I do love how many colors we retain in the highlight and of course, it set the camera to the sun you get almost another two stops of dynamic range.

13. Shutter Speed

it has a 1-over 4000 of a second to 60-second shutter speed of mechanical mode and it can do 1 over 16 thousand of a second to one second an electronic shutter movie mode for autofocus.

14. Panasonic Lumix G7 Sensor

Panasonic G7 has 35-millimeter full-frame sensor a 16 megapixel Micro Four Thirds sensor it has the ability to record up to 4k 30 frames per second and its capable of full HD 1080p video up to 60 frames per second with flat color profiles but 4k video can do FPS burst mode. It does have the ability to record in both mp4 and AVC HD codecs and in a rarity, it does have a recording limit of 29 at 59.

the sensor is not stabilized but from 16 micro four-thirds megapixel works very well with perfect lights and still subject obviously a full solution. It performs rather well in low-light conditions without producing much noise. Everything is comfortable normal photos with a very fast shooting mode does not have trouble keeping them still clearly from its best on a tripod it can guarantee good performance.

The previous model Panasonic G80 is very similar to the whole stabilizer as for the videos.

the biggest thing is that the sensor is micro-four-thirds size 16-megapixel resolution which for that price range is amazing because in comparison with Panasonic GH5 is a higher-end Panasonic camera within the Lumix G Series.

Panasonic Lumix G7 Sensor

The difference between the Panasonic G7 and the G85 they both shoot a hundred megabits per second in 4K 24 fps and 30fps, they should 28 megabits per second 1080 60 P and 20 megabits per second 1080 30 fps. So they are both the same regarding video quality because they share the same data. the G85 has the ibis it means in-body image stabilization.

So, if you want double image stabilization you need to have a stabilized lens like 12 to 60 power or the 14 140 millimeter power.

15. Lumix G7 Weight

If you’ve ever held the camera before this will feel natural st’s very lightweight at 410 grams. GH 85 actually weighs more around 450 grams with a tiny viewfinder on the top left corner and a lot more weight in the body. So in terms, of handling usability and weight it’s always been light because of its plastic body.

Panasonic Lumix G7 Body 1

16. Panasonic lumix G7 price

the price point of the Panasonic Lumix G7 is just amazing this might change depending on the time but still, the G7 is among the most budget-friendly camera. As far as the price range this is the best value based on the features that offer at the price.

the Panasonic G7 is perfect despite having some of the best specs of its price point one of the entry-level cameras coming in at around $700 and I can say Lumix G 7 is one of the best cameras for under $1000.

If you are interested in other mirrorless cameras with the Micro Four Thirds format and 4K format the Sony A6300 comes around $1000 just for the body rig.

If you’re looking for a camera for photography or to be a professional photographer I recommend going with at least the price of DSLR Cameras.

if you’re just starting out and you don’t want to spend a lot of money it’s a super-budget camera definitely, a lower price point than something like the Fujifilm X100 makes sense to spend $500 or Sony ZV1 for $700 because these models provide about half the price of similar performance.

G7 guarantees solidity, compactness, and excellent performance at the price compared to those of the flagships that have just come out on the market.

G7 has the most features that you’d find in a six-year-old camera to shoot quality video it’s great for filmmaking and if I was photo first I would actually go with this even though the Canon M50 Mark II.

this is a very low-budget camera that has a ton of pro features one of the best deals at this price point as a starter camera that’s still worth the price I don think you can get a better deal comes with two lenses I think this is a very solid camera you get 60 frames slow-motion at Full HD and really recommend this to anybody.

Advantages

  • supports continuous autofocus and raw images
  • creative control time-lapse shot
  • recording a 4k video in 4k resolution
  • allows to save photos one by one
  • gives 24 fps in 4k
  • low-light autofocusing
  • the screen flips over 360
  • no stabilization

One of the main advantages of the G7 is the camera’s ability to shoot high birthrates in the continuous mode. It gets up to 8 frames per second with the mechanical shutter, with a lock focus 6 frames per second with continuous focus, and up to 40 frames per second with the electronic shutter with lock focus.

this camera has a mechanical shutter that goes up to speeds of 4,000 a second and an electronic shutter that goes up to 16 thousand a second.

Disadvantages

So as many cameras have pros and cons also G7 has its negatives like recording in 4k resolution is limited that is 3,840 x 2,160 with a cadence of 25 or 24 frames plus a rate of 100 megabits per second.

There is a small disadvantage of the G7 that there’s a 30-minute record limit, which means that you can’t film for more than half an hour at a time.

Something that I don’t like about this camera is that if you want to switch between the mechanical shutter and the electronic shutter you have to go into the menus.

This camera does not have image stabilization built into the body like the Panasonic GH5 or Panasonic G85 and the Panasonic G 95 because all of the newer Panasonic’s do have image stabilization. If you need image stabilization it actually has to be built into the lenses.

  • only a plastic body
  •  No headphone jack

There are other things that I don’t like this camera doesn’t have panorama mode. It only goes left to right and only horizontal. You can’t go vertical you can’t go bottom-up.

Wraping Up

without a doubt, this camera will bring you a better resolution and a new vision because my review honestly shows you what this camera is capable of. I think it’s the perfect 4K budget camera if you don’t want to spend a lot of money. Or simply want to record 4K or if you want to switch to a mirrorless camera well then I say this camera is for you.

G7 has the most features that you’d find in a modern camera that’s like $700. So if you doing photos go with G7 but if you doing video I think Canon M50 is a great option because it has better autofocus.

G7 is great for vlogging because it’s so light you can hold it out for a long period of time and it feels super light. Panasonic G7 is a pricier camera than some of the competition built-in interval timing that is borrowed from the GH4.

It’s got a great grip, articulating screen, 2.3 million dot viewfinder, it’s got good manual control gives you an excellent quality video instead of the Sony A6000 will only give you just a better value for the money.

Panasonic G7 despite having only a 16megapixel sensor you still get Full HD and internal 4K at a hundred megabits per second plus what really makes this camera special is the fact that at this price point has a built-in cinema.

Conclusion

If you ask me what camera to choose I definitely go with the G7 because it’s not bad for budget 4K and it’s not so bad for the lower price. it’s a clean rather with a masculine look of a DSLR giving you things like a shutter release button, an electronic viewfinder, jog dials to control aperture, shutter speed, and shooting mode dials.

Panasonic G7 is still one of the best selling cameras on the market this is such a good camera in 2021 and in conclusion G7 six-year-old camera in my opinion still worth purchasing in 2021.

Panasonic G7 is quite good at this price range you won’t find a camera at this price that G7 can offer you a flip-up display and a microphone jack.
